Sleep

We were driving around town this afternoon when the following two gems emerged.

Liliana started. "You know when I'm alseep, my eyes are closed, but I'm always really trying to wake up." (What?)

Then Antonio. "Have you ever had a dream that you were dreaming that you were dreaming that you were having a dream?" Wow - who would have thought of recursive dreaming?

My girl turns four

Over the past few days we've celebrated Liliana's turning four. Tonight she is pretty sick, a bad cold and sore throat that migh have just come on as a result of too much presents and sweets.

For all our kids four has meant giving up the special confort of a stuffed animal and the thumb. Liliana has had 3 special blankets that have been required for bed and for comfort. One got completely shredded and it is allready upstairs in the box with Elena and Antonio's animals. But two more have lived on. We have not had a "put the blankets in the box ceremony" yet, but it has been interesting to see Liliana's processing of this coming day. To some she has claimed "I don't suck my thumb anymore" even though we know she still does. "lili are you telling the truth?" At some times the cry has become plaintive "I can't go to sleep withouth my blanky" even childish; the wordless cry and hug, showing all the affection and comfort in the world.

We'll see how the next week or so goes before we take the blankets upstairs and have that formal ceremony.

One more picture - all Lili's friends who came to her party last Friday night. What a great crowd.

Christmas Lights

We're reflecting this week on the reality that Christ brings light into the world. We rejoice in that advent theme. I love how Christmas brings out the light in so many ways. Some wacky and some just beautiful. Here are a few from my house.

Just normal people

I as driving on Friday night with Elena. At the light we saw a firetruck going down Brainerd road. I quipped - they are probably just going to Bi-lo. She laughed. "You know Papi, I always thought it was weird when we'd see the firemen at Bi-lo or the policemen at the gas station getting coffee. But then I realized; they are just normal people like you and me, and they need to go do normal stuff."

Yup - no super heros in our town. They all just go to Bi-lo.
